Our School Philosophy

We at the Iowa Massage Institute, LLC  wish to provide fundamental education in the art of massage therapy in a safe and fun environment.

Our School

The school was established in 1997 by its founder Jeff Bockoven, LMT, CRTT, RCP. The school is located on the Des Moines Southeast side. The facility contains a large classroom, 5 treatment rooms, reception area, office/library, linen/charting area, break room, storage area and 2 restrooms. Restaurants, housing and shopping are within walking distance.

OUR GOALS & OBJECTIVES

*To provide a comfortable, safe and fun environment in which students are supported in their personal development process as it relates to massage.
*To assure that students are well prepared to pass the Certification exam
*To encourage self-awareness, sensitivity and observational skills to complement effective massage techniques.
*To teach a wide variety of hands-on massage modalities which will enable the graduates to choose from a broad range of techniques allowing them to tailor to the individual needs of each client.
*To teach an in-depth study of anatomy & physiology as it relates to massage.
*To provide business support and training that will prepare the graduate to become financially successful.

COSTS
The costs of our program have changed effective immediately.  Please view our main website at:  www.iowamassageinstitute.com to view these new and exciting changes. A  $100.00 application fee with a completed application as well as a small photo, proof of age, proof of high school completion and a personal interview must be done to complete the admission process. All fees are non-refundable.    Class size is limited to a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 4 students are required to conduct the course.  CEU program information is available on this site and our main website listed above.  Contact us for more information about the personalized education that we offer!

Our Faculty

Jeff Bockoven, Director, LMT, CRTT, RCP
Jeff owned JB Therapeutic Massage Clinic, JB Studio Productions, founded A-Z Massage Associates  and is the director of the Iowa Massage Institute,LLC. He brings a strong educational and medical background to the institute. Jeff graduated from the Iowa School of Natural Therapeutics in May of 1995. He was a respiratory care practitioner and had been an educational coordinator at a local hospital in the respiratory, cardiology and neurological care departments. Jeff was also directly involved with the blood gas laboratory, emergency medicine and intensive care departments. He is a Licensed Massage Therapist in Iowa and was an active member of the Iowa Massage Therapy Regulatory Board until 1999. 

Johanna Bockoven, R.N., MSN, ARNP
Johanna received her Masters in Nursing degree from Drake University in Des Moines and became Certified Nurse Practitioner thereafter. She has been a Clinical Nursing instructor since 1991, is ACLS certified and is a BCLS Instructor Trainer through the American Heart Association. She is also a Registered Nurse practicing in the Maternity Center at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

Bruce Bockoven, LMT

Bruce is a graduate of the Iowa Massage Institute, LLC in the Fall 2006 class.  Bruce teaches First Aid/CPR and assists in monitoring student clinics.
